Challenges, Perseverance, and Opportunities

Our commitment to assisting low-income homeowners with home repair still remains strong. Our calling to be “part of the process” of spiritual growth for our volunteer participants is stronger than ever.

Participant group shotAs I reflect on the events of the past year, I’m reminded of the challenges we faced. Rising fuel prices, the devastation left by Hurricane Katrina, and the War in Iraq have caused us all to reassess and make adjustments in our lifestyles. ReConstruct is no different. The rise in building materials costs and the unprecedented volunteer effort in the Gulf region created challenges for us as well. Scripture says in James 1:2-4 ‘Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.’ These challenges have caused us to mature and have also created additional opportunities for us to minister.

One of the ways God has blessed ReConstruct is by equipping its staff with the ability to coordinate volunteers to repair homes for those in need. As ReConstruct has evolved this process has become more efficient and, therefore, more effective. With this efficiency came the opportunity to free up one of our staff in order to serve homeowners in the Gulf region affected by Hurricane Katrina. Phil Venable, ReConstruct’s VP/Treasurer, served from April-September in Gulfport, MS by partnering with another organization to help coordinate their volunteer effort. I encourage you to take the time to read Phil’s article. I truly believe it will bless you by understanding how God used him during this time.

Participant group shotWe are always amazed to see how God uses those who serve through ReConstruct. Whether it’s painting or roofing, we have experienced “faith into action” by many of our participants. Please take time to read the letter from Steve Chiappisi from Wilmington, NC. He ministered to Ms. Stokely in a special way this past fall. It is evident that God is still at work in the hearts of those who participate in a ReConstruct Project.

As we continue to grow and change, ReConstruct will face additional challenges. We have a great challenge ahead us to regain our momentum in 2007. I mention this as a reminder that your support is needed more than ever. Click here to see this year&rquo;s Financial Information. On that page you will find a pdf download of our 2006 Annual Report.

The Nashville area shall remain the base for our ministry. We will continue to attract volunteers and help many low-income homeowners here locally. Our experience and ability will also be used to assist those individuals who want to start a home repair ministry in their city. We consider this our way to disciple, mentor, and build the Kingdom.

God has blessed us through the individuals, foundations and corporations that have supported ReConstruct. To you, we say “thank you” for the many ways you have contributed to our ministry. To our new friends, we ask that you consider joining us through your financial support as we renew hope for low-income homeowners and change the lives of those that serve.

Working for Him,

Paul D. Morris
